THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR WONDERFUL SUPPORTERS!
Dear Friend,

The New Jersey Commission on Bullying in Schools report There Isn't a Moment to Lose, found that school harassment, intimidation and bullying (HIB) is a significant impediment to effective education and the well-being of our youth.  In addition, HIB can result in low self-esteem, anxiety, depression and psychotic symptoms, poor academic performance in victims as well as an increase in the illegal use of weapons and gang recruitment in schools.  It is most disturbing to note that suicide and violence towards others are the most extreme and harmful manifestations of distress associated with HIB.  According to the report, 1 in 10 youth is "having the worst day of their lives every day that they go to school because of harsh treatment by peers."

Prevention First's bullying prevention programs can assist those schools, families and communities concerned with this issue.  Call us today to request a program.  Since 1967, Prevention First has served as the premiere prevention education resource in Monmouth County.  Our staff of prevention professionals has been trained in evidence-based bullying prevention curricula which span the continuum from pre-K to high school.

Prevention First Rolled Out New Bullying Prevention Programs
Prevention First introduced three new programs to
coincide with October being National Bullying Prevention Month.

They each focus on the alarming problem of bullying which is quickly increasing. "Child and teen bullying and cyber-bullying are at an all time high," stated Prevention First's Executive Director, Mary Pat Angelini. WHAT IF... is one of the new programs, based on the MTV hit show, If You Really Knew Me. It aims to break down the barriers of prejudices by opening the lines of communication. "This program will change the way teens understand each other and increase acceptance. We encourage students to "get real" and see each other in a different, positive light and take steps towards change and compassion." said Nicki Francis, Community Development Specialist. Ms. Francis is a certified Bullying Prevention Specialist and will be implementing WHAT IF... for high school age youth.

The other two programs being introduced by Prevention First are IT TAKES COURAGE and COURAGEOUS KIDS for middle school and elementary school aged children, respectively. Ms. Angelini went on to say,"Our agency has always strived to be relevant to the issues at hand- and relevant to the needs of our community. Since the establishment of our earliest underage drinking project to our focus on the rising problem of prescription drug use to our most current development of bullying prevention programs based in research, Prevention First is always at the forefront of opportunities to help our children stay healthy, safe, and drug-free."

For information on booking one of these programs for your school or youth group, please contact Helen Varvi, Program Development Specialist at 732-663-1800 ext. 212 or visit Prevention First on the web at www.PreventionFirst.net
