The Prevention Coalition of Monmouth County serves the eastern-central part of New Jersey. The area is primarily rural, with 645,249 residents and 53 municipalities. Multiple subcommittees are committed to addressing specific needs of targeted groups.

The Prevention Coalition's goals are to:

• reduce youth/adult substance abuse by addressing factors that increase the risk of substance abuse through the promotion of building protective factors;
  
  
• establish and strengthen collaboration among the community sectors to prevent and reduce youth/adult substance abuse and at-risk behaviors among youth and adults;
  
  

The Prevention Coalition of Monmouth County accepts the responsibility of articulating a vision of prevention community where all children are protected, nurtured, supported, educated, encouraged, inspired, recognized and given opportunities to successfully participate in, connect with and contribute to the people and their community. The Coalition's vision will identify and assert what services need to be provided and how the services should be integrated into the service delivery system in order to realize the vision.

A leadership role requires the Coalition to raise the visibility of youth issues. In order for the Coalition to fulfill its charge, it must create a climate that draws support for and commitment to youth and their families from many quarters. The Coalition must possess expertise and up-to-date information, research, data, trends and knowledge about effective programs and policies regarding youth issues. The Coalition will act as a catalyst among stakeholders to increase dialogue and collaboration while improving service delivery to youth and their families.
